Gem quality Zoisite crystals were discovered in Tanzania in the early 1960's while prospectors were searching the geology for Ruby. After exposing these unusual brownish - greenish crystals to common heat treatment the discovery was amazing - the heat treatment transformed the color to a rich and dramatic periwinkle blue with flashes of red. Tiffany’s was the first major purchaser - christening this new gem Tanzanite, putting it into production and offering it to the jewelry buying public. The popularity has grown ever since even being designated as December’s birthstone.
The Tanzanite in this ring is a classic example of a top quality gem showing flashed of red in its body of saturated purplish blue (periwinkle) color. This gem weighs 11.57 carats and is surrounded by 33 diamonds weighing in total 1.00 carats in a hand made 14 karat white gold ring setting. Please call or email for price.
