A diamond
is beautiful because of it's ability to perform a combination of three
physical effects with light. Brilliancy, scintillation and fire.
Brilliancy is from the diamonds ability to capture incident light,
concentrate it, and return back to the viewer making it appear brighter
than anything else around it.
Scintillation or sparkle, is from the diamonds ability to twinkle
and appear to be in motion or alive. Motion of the viewer, the light
source or the diamond will make scintillation.
Fire is from the diamonds ability to show bright flashes of spectral
colors, (red, orange, yellow, green, blue and violet) from the dispersion
of light as it leaves the diamond..
